Capturing a Rarely-Seen Process

Helicopter stringing is a highly specialised, high-risk operation rarely seen up close, and our brief was to capture it in a way that conveyed both the scale of the engineering achievement and the precision required to execute it safely. To do this authentically, we needed multiple perspectives working in parallel.

A Multi-Pronged Filming Approach

We deployed a combination of filming techniques to capture the full scope of the operation:

Aerial Drone Footage
Drone footage captured sweeping views of the transmission lines and surrounding landscape during periods when the helicopter was grounded, providing essential establishing and scale shots of the project.

Helicopter-Mounted Cameras
Even though we regularly use Cinema Cameras, sometimes it's the humble action camera that gets the epic shots.  Multiple GoPro's and Intsa 360 X5 cameras were safely rigged directly to the helicopter, delivering an immersive, first-person perspective of the stringing process as it happened in real time — footage that would be impossible to capture from any other vantage point.

On-the-Ground Interviews
We conducted interviews with key personnel on-site, filmed within strict controlled environments to meet the project's rigorous safety requirements, giving voice and expertise to the operation unfolding around them.

Professional Photography
Alongside video, we photographed key project assets for use in media and publication, capturing high-resolution imagery of the infrastructure and operations for broader distribution.

Fast Turnaround, Multiple Formats

This project required us to work efficiently across several deliverables simultaneously, including:

• Video News Release (VNR) content for distribution to news outlets
• Photography of key assets for media publication
• A high-impact social media reel designed for maximum engagement and reach

Given the newsworthy nature of the milestone, quick turnaround was essential for both the VNR and photographic components, ensuring the content could be distributed to media outlets while the story remained current.

The Result

The final output successfully captured a technically complex, rarely-documented process from multiple perspectives — delivering content that served news media, corporate communications, and social platforms simultaneously. This project reflects Cinemedia's ability to work across multiple formats and deliver fast, high-quality content for large-scale infrastructure projects with significant safety and logistical considerations.
